Why British women are wearing the trousers this Valentine’s Day

The UK’s women are leading the way in bedrooms across the land. When it comes to sex they’re more open, more daring and more passionate than their partners, according to a new poll by leading adult toys website PlanetPassion.co.uk.

Surprisingly, over two-thirds (69%) reckon they’ll not only be doing the organising of a romantic dinner on the 14th of February but also taking the lead in the bedroom afterwards. Given that this goes against every good cliché in the book, what can be the explanation for the surge in woman power? Are men simply getting feebler? Or are today’s women just too much for their partners?

Almost certainly, confidence has much to do with it. More than nine out of ten (94%) women say they now have a more relaxed and confident attitude to sex than before they used their first sex toy. Almost as many (81%) say they’re now more willing to experiment with their partner in the bedroom. The only problem is that 59% reckon their men are too shy to reveal their fantasies and need taking in hand!

It takes two to tango

Nonetheless, 72% of women have used their toys with a partner. And would you believe it, men seem to be more than a little shy in this area, too, with nearly three quarters (74%) of women having to take the lead in introducing toys, lingerie or sexy outfits to their lovemaking. Of these 92% reported their partners were delighted and that it provided a new spark to their love life.

Men will be equally pleased to hear that 86% said their sex toys kept them on the straight and narrow - and made them less likely to have a casual fling when going through a rough patch with their regular partner.

More sex statistics:
- 61% own four or more sex toys
- Of the 58% who have tried specialist lubricant, 97% say they love it so much they’ll postpone sex until a new bottle comes in the post
- The average age of respondents is 36.
- 55% are brunettes, 38% are blondes and 7% are redheads
- 17% have tried out remote control sex toys outside the house but only 7% have been brave enough to hand the controller to their partner

Regional highlights:
London and South East -- Undoubtedly the most daring group, 71% say they’d be willing to try ‘anything’ as long as they could trust their partner. A fifth (20%) have bought a sex toy for their partner.
South West – Almost a third (29%) would like to try sex outdoors – it must be the long hot summers! 76% have dressed up in sexy lingerie for their partner.
Midlands –76% say they’ll be leading the way this Valentine’s Day, both in and out of the bedroom. They have the lowest average sex toy ownership with 43% owning four or more.
East Anglia -- Kinky shenanigans are nothing new to the women of the East Anglia. 74% have experimented with blindfolds, while another 13% say they’d like to try it. Almost a quarter (22%) have tried out remote control sex toys outside the house.
North West – More reticent than other groups, under half (44%) would be willing to try ‘anything’ as long they could trust their partner. 68% will be leading the way in the bedroom on Valentine’s Day.
North East – 87% have dressed up in sexy lingerie for their partners, while just over a quarter (27%) have worn fantasy outfits in the bedroom. 74% have used sex toys with their partner.
Wales – Welsh men have got something to be proud of, with more of them (62%) willing to share their favourite fantasies with their partners. 68% have experimented with blindfolds, with another 16% saying they’d like to try it.
Scotland – In another crushing blow to stereotypes, Scottish women are the biggest spenders on sex toys, with nearly three quarters (69%) owning four or more toys. A quarter (24%) have bought a sex toy for their partner.
